Big news at SLPS! Mallinckrodt and Betty Wheeler Elementary Schools Receive National Blue Ribbon Schools Recognition
The U.S. Department of Education announced this afternoon that two Saint Louis Public Schools (SLPS) have been named National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2023. Betty Wheeler Classical Junior Academy and Mallinckrodt Academy of Gifted Instruction are two of only eight schools in the state of Missouri to receive the honor.
The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups on assessments, according to the U.S. Department of Education.
Congratulations to the students, staff and families at both schools for all your hard work!

For our SLPS Leadership Academy, the day began with a discussion of joy and humor. Superintendent, Dr. Keisha Scarlett points out if we are bringing these things to work, if we are seeking out the reasons to celebrate, then we are bringing all this into the lives of our children. The message to our School Leadership Academy this morning came from Dr. Artika R. Tyner, an educator, civil rights attorney, and author of 35 books. (She's been busy!)
She says a compassionate leader goes well beyond empathy. It's a combination of empathy and action that can turn you into the ultimate treasure hunter....looking for those treasures in people that may not be right on the surface.

We're eagerly anticipating the induction of our new Superintendent, Dr. Keisha Scarlett! The official ceremony to swear her in will begin at 6:15 PM at Carr Lane VPA Middle School, moments before today's board meeting.
